The history of our church
We are the Syriac Orthodox Community of Northern Brussels, coming mainly from districts Jette , Laeken , Molenbeek , Berchem- Saint -Agathe , Zelik and Ganshoren . To date , our community has about one hundred and twenty families.
Our church has two function rooms which are used during funeral meals and Sunday , christenings, engagements, catechism classes , meetings and small festive events
The community initially had over sixty families and about a hundred children who followed Syriac courses . And it is for this reason that we wanted and we had to have our own church. All members of the community got together to find a solution. We finally decided to form an association and have elected some people to represent us. It was at this moment that began our search for a location for our new church. In 1998 , we acquired the store localized on street Jacobs Fontaine , 122 Jette. The build began in 2000.
Thanks to God and with the help of all members of the community we were able to complete the construction and it is with joy that Bishop Julius Cicek Yesuh inaugurated and consecrated November 2, 2003 the first Syriac Orthodox Church in Belgium.
